How Miranda got started...
Kerr started her modeling at the age of 13 when she first won the Dolly Magazine/Impulse Model Competition and was flown to Sydney a week before her fourteenth birthday to shoot for the magazine. Since she was so young.
it opened a big contraversy to show how young girls are exploited within the entertainment industry. This did not stop her from persuing her career in modeling. After graduating high school, she then went on to sign with different modeling agencies.

Before she became famous
Miranda May Kerr was born on April 20, 1983 in Australia’s Sydney and raised in a small town of Gunnedah, away from limelight and public buzz. “There wasn’t any pretentiousness and no one really cared what you were wearing. You could just be you,” Miranda described her life in the countryside. As a child Kerr was a kind of a tomboy racing motorbikes and riding horses, though studying in an all-girl Catholic high school after her family, mother Therese, farther John and younger brother Matthew, moved to Brisbane, Queensland to try to live a city life. After school Miranda planned to study nutrition before pursuing modeling.
Getting famous
Miranda Kerr was only 13 when she entered the fashion industry by winning the Dolly/Impulse Covergirl Australian nation-wide model competition hosted by Dolly Magazine and Impulse fragrances in 1997. She was chosen to do a photo shoot for the magazine. The shoot generated certain public buzz when some conservative media outlets claimed her Dolly photos constituted a form of child pornography. “In the media at the time they were trying to cling on to anything remotely to do with paedophilia. Dolly is a magazine for teenage girls, not for old men. And I was fully clothed! Doing a winter shoot! They just made something out of nothing,” Kerr said later.
Though the Dolly shoot kicked off her career it wasn’t till 2003 that she pursued it in full, after finishing school in Brisbane first.
Anyway, when still a high school student, Miranda signed to Chic Management Sydney Division. She received considerable commercial exposure after a series of ads for Australian surf chain Billabong. Kerr became the face of Australian fashion chain store Portmans and was often seen in Australia and New Zealand’s top fashion magazines, fashion catalogues and catwalk shows. In 2003 Kerr signed with Melbourne’s Chadwick agency.
Miranda the runway model
Miranda Kerr moved to New York in 2004. Kerr had a number of runway appearances before signing with Next model agency the same year. Soon after that she could be seen in ad campaigns and runway shows for such labels as Baby Phat, Lisa Ho, Voodoo Dolls, Levi’s, Bettina Liano, Nicola Finetti, L.A.M.B., Heatherette, Betsey Johnson, Trelise Cooper, Jets, John Richmond, Blumarine Swimwear, Neiman Marcus, Seafolly Swimwear, Anna Molinari, Rock and Republic and Roberto Cavalli. Miranda was also featured in such magazines as Elle, Australian Vogue, Madison and Harpers Bazaar, as well as TV adverts for Portmans, Bonds and Veet. “At this stage, I’m really enjoying where I’m at doing the modelling but if an opportunity came up, I would definitely look into it,” she said.
In 2006 Miranda signed a contract to join Maybelline New York and was later featured in a number of print campaigns in such internationally sold magazines as Cosmopolitan, Cleo and Elle, and was eventually featured in Victoria’s Secret catalogues.
The same year Kerr took part in Victoria’s Secret’s catwalk shows and became the first Australian model to represent the brand. Soon she was made Victoria’s Secret Angel and was first featured in Angels, Wireless commercial, wearing animated wings and reciting a short poem. “I am focused on what I am doing [modeling] and still feel like I have a lot to learn. I always enjoy trying new things and exploring new opportunities, ” she said in an interview.
Next year she became a key model in the 2007 Victoria’s Secret Show. Her popularity as a lingerie model provided her with a lot of other modeling opportunities. In 2007 she became the face of Arden B, Californian fashion retailer, and was featured in their spring, summer and fall campaigns. She also signed a deal to be the face of Clinique Happy and Australian department store David Jones. Kerr is now dubbed “the next MacPherson” and is described as “the perfect endorsement” for being able to “truly sell a product.”
According to Forbes, Miranda Kerr has earned $3.5 million in 2007 becoming number 10 on the 16 world’s top-earning models list.
In 2008 Kerr has been very hard at work traveling and modeling all over the world. “I would have to say the best and worst part of my job is the constant travel, and while I do get to see so much of this beautiful world, it really can get very tiring,” she explains. “In the last 22 days I’ve been to eight different countries. Honestly, I’m always on an airplane,” she said. “I spend a lot of time on beautiful little islands, but generally it’s one day here and then flying, then one day there, then fly. But I feel very grateful to have so much work.”
Her latest success is Victoria’s Secret fashion show at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach on November 15, 2008. Miranda definitely stole the show . And it was the first time she put her Angel wings on a catwalk.
In February 2009 it was reported that Miranda Kerr is in talks to become a fashion ambassador for Australia. Australian Tourist Commission is said to be planning to give her such an offer. “I think it’s a flattering thing and if anyone wants to talk to me about it I’d be open to suggestions,” Kerr told the Courier Mail.
Though being one of the leading models of the day, Miranda Kerr is open to new opportunities and someday hopes to try her hand in acting. So far she’s appeared in an episode of How I Met Your Mother alongside other Victoria’s Secret Angels, and starred in Kanye West and Pharrell’ ‘Number One’ video, as well as her ex-boyfriend’s music video, Tamarama’s ‘Everything To Me’. “I was blessed with good genetics, but my essence is very happy and warm and I don’t take my job too seriously. I’m not saving lives here,” Miranda noted once.
In early 2009 Miranda was added to the Who’s Who directory for the first time. The annual Who’s Who recognizes people who have reached excellence in their respective field. In May Forbes revealed Miranda Kerr was in top 10 best earning models of the year, coming 9th with $3 million.
Miranda Kerr is everywhere today – she’s a catwalk angel, a traveling baby, and a magazine cover girl. Has her new life changed her? “I still feel like the same person, in every way – it is just some of my surroundings have changed and there are lots of new people in my life,” she says, adding that “I’m doing my job just like everyone else is doing their job.”
In October 2009 Kerr took part in her first ever charity effort launched by her mom Therese. She visited the inaugural Anatta Community Rally, BBQ & Concert, a fundraiser for Kids Helpline taking place at Oxley Creek Common in Rocklea, Australia, on October 18. “It’s the first time Miranda has done something for the charity and it’s a cause she’s extremely passionate about,” an event spokeswoman said.
The same month she launched her first cosmetics range, 100% organic skincare line Kore in David Jones department store in Australia.
In June issue of Elle Magazine Miranda gushed about her new book Treasure Yourself, set to be published later in 2010. “[The book] is about encouraging young women to embrace their individuality,” Miranda told Elle. “You may think it’s easy for me to say, but we all have insecurities. It’s important, as women, to get past all of that and let our talents shine.”
