Preity Zinta (born 31 January 1975) is an Indian film actress. She has appeared in Hindi- , Telugu-, Punjabi- and English-language films. After graduating with a degree in criminal psychology, Zinta made her acting debut in Dil Se in 1998, followed by a role in Soldier the same year. These performances earned her a Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut, and she was later recognised for her role as a teenage single mother in Kya Kehna (2000). She subsequently played a variety of character types; her film roles, along with her screen persona, contributed to a change in the concept of a Hindi film heroine. Zinta received a Filmfare Award for Best Actress in 2003 for her performance in the drama Kal Ho Naa Ho. Mil Gaya (2003), her biggest commercial success, and the star-crossed romance Veer-Zaara (2004), which earned her critical acclaim. Kareena Kapoor (born 21 September 1980) is an Indian actress who appears in Bollywood films. During her career, Kapoor has received six Filmfare Awards out of nine nominations, and has been noted for her performances in a range of film genres. Born into a family of actors, Kapoor faced the media spotlight from a very young age but did not make her acting début until the 2000 film Refugee. Her melodrama Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... became India's highest-grossing film in the overseas market in 2001 and remains one of her biggest commercial successes to date. After receiving negative reviews for a series of repetitive roles, Kapoor accepted more demanding parts in order to avoid being typecast, and was consequently recognized by critics for displaying greater versatility as an actress. Her portrayal of a sex worker in Chameli (2004) proved to be the turning point in her career. The film (and Kapoor's performance) opened to predominantly positive reviews by critics, and eventually garnered her the Filmfare Special Performance Award. In 2007, Kapoor received the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her performance in Jab We Met. She went on to play the lead female role in the drama 3 Idiots (2009), which became the highest-grossing Bollywood film of all time at the time of its release.
Genelia D'Souza (born 5 August 1987) is an Indian actress, model, and host. She has appeared in Telugu-, Hindi-, Tamil-, Kannada-, and Malayalam-language films. After gaining wide attention in a Parker Pen commercial with Amitabh Bachchan, D'Souza began her film career with Tujhe Meri Kasam in 2003. She was recognized for her role in Boys the same year, and later established herself in Telugu cinema by acting in several films between 2003 and 2005. D'Souza received her first Filmfare Award in 2006 for her performance in the Telugu romantic film, Bommarillu. In 2008, she gave critically acclaimed performances in Santosh Subramaniam, a Tamil remake of Bommarillu, and the Bollywood movie Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na. Having acted in several commercially successful movies in Telugu and Tamil, D'Souza has established herself as one of the leading actresses of the South Indian film industry. In addition to movie acting, D'Souza has hosted the television show Big Switch, and is the brand ambassador of several foreign companies in India.
Riya Sen (born 24 January 1981) is an Indian film actress and model. Riya, who comes from a family of actors including her grandmother Suchitra Sen, mother Moon Moon Sen and sister Raima Sen, began her acting career in 1991 as a child actress in the film Vishkanya. Her first commercially successful role was in N. Chandra's Style, a low-budget Hindi sex comedy released in 2001. Some of her other films include producer Pritish Nandy's musical, Jhankaar Beats (2003) in Hinglish, Shaadi No. 1 (2005) and the Malayalam horror film Anandabhadram (2005). Riya was first recognised as a model when she performed in Falguni Pathak's music video Yaad Piya Ki Aane Lagi at the age of sixteen. Since then, she has appeared in music videos, commercials, fashion shows, and on magazine covers. Riya has worked as an activist and appeared in an AIDS awareness video with the aim of dispelling common myths about the disease. She has also helped raise funds for pediatric eye-care. Shriya Saran (born 11 September 1982), also known by the mononym Shriya, is an Indian film actress and model. She has worked in several of the regional industries of Indian cinema, having acted in Telugu-, Tamil-, Malayalam- and Hindi-language films, as well as a few films in English. Saran made her film debut in 2001 with the Telugu film Ishtam, and had her first commercial success with Santhosham (2002). She subsequently appeared in several more Telugu films, while making in-roads in the Hindi and Tamil film industries. In 2007, Saran starred in Sivaji: The Boss, the highest grossing Tamil film at that time. She also gained critical acclaim for her role in the 2007 Bollywood film Awarapan. In 2008, Saran played the lead role in her first English film, the American-Indian co-production The Other End of the Line. Her following projects included popular films such as Kanthaswamy (2009) in Tamil, and Pokkiri Raja (2010) in Malayalam, her roles in which have established her as one of the leading actresses in the South Indian film industries.
